As part of the photovoltaic power plant (PV plant) project near Dobrich, construction company Varaks carried out a comprehensive range of construction and installation works related to the construction of foundations and the installation of fire protection water tanks, together with the associated infrastructure and pipe connections.
The following construction and installation works were performed:
• Mechanized and manual excavation, preparation and compaction of the soil;
• Backfill, leveling and compaction of gravel, as well as installation of polyethylene film as part of the foundation preparation;
• Supply and fit reinforcement and construction of a reinforced concrete foundation for the fire protection water tanks;
• Formwork, formwork removal and construction of a concrete curb around the tanks, including pour concrete;
• Installation and positioning of prefabricated fire protection water tanks with a capacity of 32 m³ using a mobile crane, including precise leveling and securing;
• Layered sand backfilling around the tanks, followed by compaction;
• Fit HDPE (PE-HD) pipe connections, including pipes, fittings, flanges and welded joints;
• Fit ventilation pipes to ensure the required air exchange and proper operation of the fire protection water tanks;
• Fit anchors, galvanized steel bars and tensioners for structural securing;
• Gradual filling of the tanks with water using water tanker trucks for the purpose of system testing, ensuring the required water reserve and preparing the system for operation.
Fire tanks located near the PV plant provide a reliable and readily available supply of water in the event of a fire. They are particularly important in remote PV parks such as this one, where a water supply network with the required flow rate is often lacking. The close location of the tanks shortens the response time of fire equipment and facilitates containment of the fire, reducing the risk of its spread to the PV modules, cable routes and transformer facilities.
Construction works for the foundations of the fire-fighting water tanks at the photovoltaic power plant near Dobrich began with precise setting-out of the site. The required levels are established and profile boards are installed.
Once the preparatory works have been completed, the team from construction company Varaks proceeds with the excavation works. The mechanical excavation is carried out in accordance with the approved design documentation, the specified technical parameters and the equipment manufacturer’s requirements.
